The mid-section of Ecuador contains an Inter-Andean agricultural land, highland scrub, and deserts. The Swamp and marsh areas are located closer towards the coastal region.

People & Landscape
The Volcano Cotopaxi, is known as one of the highest and most active volcano in all of South America. Located east of the Ecuadorian Andes, it measures 550 x 800 meters in diameter. The first eruption took place in 1534, when the conquistadors engaged in warfare with locals over Ecuador’s land. The eruption destroyed the village of La Contiega.
The Amazon River basin is located between the countries of Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Guyana, Peru, Venezuela, and Ecuador. It is 4,195 miles long and it covers 2,720,000 square miles of land. The Amazon River is considered the largest river in the entire world.
The remains of the Quilottoa volcano is located 80km southwest of Quito. It inner walls rise up to 400m above the 240m surface of the lake within. The first and only eruption occurred in 1280, and was considered the largest in the past 1000 years.
The Independence Square is located in Quito, Ecuador and is set as a monument honoring the individuals whom first sought their independence from the Royal Audience of Quito who had political, military and religious power over territories in 1809. Independence Square features the original Cathedral of Quito, Carondelet Palace, the Municipal Palace, as well as the Archbishop’s Palace and the Plaza Grand Hotel.
Fiestas de Quito is known as one of the most important celebration in Ecuador, as it celebrates the formation of the city. The celebration focuses on the diversity of the city, as well as the food, traditions, and musical parades.
